Marshall-Harrison County Health District is proud to announce its fourth class in the Building Healthy Futures series, Safe Waters, Strong Families, focused on essential water safety education for families in our community. Families are encouraged to attend to start their summer strong with a focus on water safety.

As temperatures rise and families spend more time around pools, lakes, and other bodies of water, this class will provide practical, life-saving information to help keep children and adults safe. Participants will learn critical safety strategies for both backyard swimming environments and open water settings.

Marshall Fire Department’s Assistant Fire Chief Randall Jeans, Scott Robertson with Texas State Parks Police, and Texas Game Wardens will lead the session, sharing their firsthand knowledge and experience. Topics will include drowning prevention, supervision tips, emergency response, life jacket safety, boating safety, and recognizing hazards in lakes and natural waterways.

“Water safety is something every family needs to understand, especially as we head into summer,” said Jennifer Hancock, MHCHD Executive Director. “This class gives parents and caregivers the confidence and tools to help prevent accidents before they happen.”

The class will take place on Thursday, May 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the Marshall Public Library in the Gold Room. This class is recommended for adults only to learn skills to communicate with their preteens and teens. This event is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to attend together.
