A new community wellness initiative, Building Healthy Futures, is launching with a powerful first session focused on Overdose Recognition and Response Training. Marshall-Harrison County Health District’s Building Healthy Futures series will offer monthly educational opportunities designed to support health, safety, and resilience across the community.

The inaugural training will equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to recognize stimulant and opioid overdoses and respond effectively in emergency situations. Attendees will learn how to identify signs of an overdose, respond safely and confidently, and administer naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses.

“Overdose is a public health issue that affects families, friends, and neighbors across our community,” states Vanessa Conley, Naloxone Education Specialist, ETCADA. “This training empowers everyday people with practical tools that can save lives and helps reduce stigma by focusing on compassion, education, and action.”

Building Healthy Futures is a monthly community wellness series hosted by Marshall-Harrison County Health District that will address a wide range of topics throughout the year, including prevention, mental health, disaster preparedness, and overall community well-being. All sessions are designed to be accessible, inclusive, and open to the public. “Our goal is to continue our focus on wellness by bringing together subject matter experts to address important health, safety, and prevention topics that matter to our community,” explains Jennifer Hancock, MHCHD Executive Director.

The Overdose Recognition and Response Training will take place on Thursday, February 26, at 1:00 p.m. at the Marshall Public Library in the Gold Room. The event is free, but registration is encouraged.
